Tork Vs EC daily driver based on doverosx dyno results

Thread in question.

Based on his dyno results, which tune would be better for daily driving? I drive in san francisco for a living, so 85% of my day im driving below 60mph and between 1900 and 3500rpm. seems like the EC would be better for when im gunning it for fun on clear straight aways from stop lights, or when im trying to weave through city street traffic, but not sure.

Hah, on second thought I can definitely see why you originally responded in his thread. Either was is good.

As far as which is better for daily driving, I think personally either one, but I have never personally used the Tork tune. I have no daily driving issues with the EC tune however - power comes on much more smoothly than it did when I had a piggyback, and there are no surprises.

For daily driving I think you'd be really happy with any of the flash tunes. EC, Tork, OFT or Speedmotive. They are all a substantial step up in drive-ability from the piggybacks; anyone who says differently is probably selling a piggyback. Not that piggybacks are terrible, I really enjoyed Magnetti Marelli when I had it back in 2014, just that there isn't really a good reason to hold back.

Which one is best is probably subjective and also fluid as these tunes are updated over time as improvements that are discovered. We went through this years ago with RAW and EC with two camps throwing stones and no real comparison. It's kind of cool that Doverosx has dyno'd both so we have some real data points to help with perspective and I hope that more people are able to do that as time goes on.

So that's all not terribly helpful when making a decision, so my advise remains try to find out who you like and think you can work with. A tune is not inexpensive, so you don't want to buy multiple if you can avoid it. So find a tuner that you can talk to, trust and can maintain a rapport with. I went through this with my first tuner, he was slow to respond and always made me feel like I was bothering him. When I found out that another driver was getting updates while I was still struggling with the car running super rich and continuously dropping underboost CELs it nailed my decision to switch. As it turned out the tune was probably fine, but my car had issues but you live and learn and I don't really regret switching.

So reach out to the tuners you are interested and see if they talk your language.

100% agree on reaching out to the Tuners you are looking to go with, you can inquire about the tune via email or phone and see who better suits your needs with responses/customer service and overall willingness to tune your car! I have only dealt with EC, NGEN, and Speedmotive, all of them have been amazing with responses to any questions I have!
As for which Tune I have and why, I am using EC phase 1 because I have a 2015 and they were among the first to have 2015 flashing capabilities as far as I knew at the time and I am still very happy with my daily driving throughout San Diego and LA.

Also keep in mind that 99% of the problems people report as being a "tune problem" turn out in the end to be a "car problem" instead. I've heard of people switching from one to the other or even a third tuner trying to fix issues they're experiencing only to find that the problem isn't the tune, but the car.

These tunes press cars to their limit, and ANY weak component will fail to meet the increased demand. Sometimes figuring out which component is giving the issue can be a real challenge, but that's the fun of all this right?

A+ replies, guys! Im still torn unfortunately, but I have time to think. For the record, this is what Dover had to say over on the abarth owners facebook page:

"My preference is the Tork tune.

Overall, the Tork tune is smoother in transitional states; lugging is minimal, time to spool is lower, throttle to acceleration relationship is more linear (noticeable in snow storms where feathering throttle is required). I mostly putt putt on my commute and that’s what sold me on he Tork tune lol.

The speedmotive and openflash tunes both have good characteristics in this area as well."

I like the "lugging is minimal" comment. Also the earlier spooling. Maybe it will come down to whether the tork tune supports 2015.

While I respect Brodey's research, not everyone agrees with his conclusions. But I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever choice you make.

The tork tune supports 2015s, I have a 2015 and an 8GMK. The throttle mapping for the EC tune is essentially an on/off switch and it makes it difficult to dial in fine tuning on the street and in autocross. As Alvin said, not everyone agrees with my opinion, then again not everyone competes nationally and podiums (2/3 times now). Another issue that I had, and yes Alvin, it's an issue is partial throttle and high engine load, the car would dump/build/dump/build boost and I'm not the only one to have this issue either. The more that I have provided my personal opinions, the more I've seen people attempt to discredit me and the more I've had people message me privately to share their experiences.

I think it's sad that people can't even voice their opinions for fear of being exhiled. I'm not sorry that I prefer Tork, if that offends you, go drive your car and enjoy it.
