LED headlight bulbs
Anyone found any LED bulbs that will fit behind the factory bulb cover? I got some bulbs that looked great on Amazon but they’re why too long to fit.
Re: LED headlight bulbs
The Diode Dynamics SL1 will fit. However, they take six to eight weeks to get. I was sent a defective bulb, which they will replace, but it's taking forever.

Do you tuck the little ballast piece inside the lamp (behind the dust cap)?

This is what I went for as a cost effective option when one of my Halogens burned out. Probably not as bright as some of the name brand stuff but they seem to be holding up well.
The beam pattern is adjustable as well, which made a substantial difference in regards to glare. The main assembly can rotate in its housing for fine adjustment.
Also, they do fit behind the cover.
The "Eye of Megatron" bit on the packaging was also a compelling reason for purchase .

Thanks. Maybe I’ll buy those.

Inspired by the size of those I tried to fit mine under the dust caps and they just made it. Hopefully they last. I can’t imagine the fan is that effective.

I’ve been doing lots of research — YouTube, review sites — and if I had it to do over I’d buy these:

They’re well-regarded and barely bigger than a standard 9012.

Re: LED headlight bulbs
I just installed a set of Morimoto 2Stroke 2.0 LED units for the headlight housings yesterday and the dust cap fits back on without issue. We'll see how long they last in the Texas heat. I settled on these since they're the least blue-shifted lights I could find that offered significantly higher-than-stock light output and have been around long enough that I feel comfortable they aren't a fly-by-night outfit. I discovered Texas has stretches of highways and freeways with zero street or ambient lighting, and driving with halogen headlights in a thunderstorm in the middle of the night is an absolutely harrowing experience.
Here's a review of them on a third party testing/review site:
