I thought I was all ready to go with putting the exhaust housing back in.

However this is much more annoying than I imagined. Ignoring the cramped space and losing a nut behind the heat shield 3 times, the stud just wants to run through the turbo housing and refuses the locking nut. I double nutted the top of the stud and that seemed to do the trick, but I only got one done before the heat drove me out of the garage.

It works pretty well really. I work in short chunks in the morning, and the heat seems to make me stop before I get frustrated and reach for the power tools.

I’’m currently at 2 1/2 studs done and think I’ll be finished with that part tomorrow!

So I figured out the technique and got this done over the last couple of morning. The key is to tighten the top nut down hard, so it acts as double nut against the threads in the exhaust housing. Obvious really, not sure why I made it so difficult.

Turbo housing is in. So next will replace the heatshield and put the turbo back together.

Had fun getting the turbo back together.

There is a tiny locating stud above the turbine, that has to line up (obviously). You have to get that in and hold the turbo together and with your other set of hands put the v-band clamp on.

Then I was having issues lining up the banjo bolt on the back, so it was suggested to unbolt the hard line from the coolant hard pipe. Easy peasy, well except that the T30 bolt was stripped.

Using an Irwin bolt extractor got that out, and have loosely bolted the lines to the turbo.

Now I need to find a replacement for that T30 bolt. It looks like it might be sold as part of the hard pipe (#18 on the diagram) which is annoying.

That sucks that your bolt gave up. Can you find the same length/thread pitch at Ace?

It’s still annoying to get that hard line on from the other end, but I do now have all the lines on the turbo!

Got the WGA on. For those playing along at home that should go on before you secure the front coolant line. The Forge version does squeeze in there, the stock one wouldn't though.

Next, I need to wrap the downpipe. I conveniently forgot to buy the steel ties, so didn't get very far with it. My future seems to be revolving around 7yo birthday parties too.

I was debating whether I should replace the engine/transmission mounts as I'm in the vicinity.
Should I?

It helps if they send the right version ;)

What is freaky is that to make it fit a Euro Abarth it goes the other way up. What's that about!
