anyone have any specific pictures of the trans internals they want me to take before i button it back up again?

fun fact: it turns out there are two housings for the c510. my trans in particular was converted at the factory from the "early build" housing to the "late build" housing. it's unclear whether current output for the italian sourced trans are late build or new build. the major difference is that the early build housing is 4 pieces, whereas the late build housing is 3pcs with a reinforcement plate to stabilize the shafts between the 5th gear assembly and the rest of the trans.

i haven't ever seen the early build in person, so it's unclear to me wth is going on; i also don't know the part number for the late build reinforcement plate.

sigh.

This is more information on the 2015 trans upgrades than I've ever seen. Up till now it seemed a legend other than the fact most busted transmissions were earlier models.

Wonder if we can find any documentation/photo evidence?

I have a 2013 C510 in exploded state, scattered around my garage.

What exactly grenaded in it?

I'm also kinda curious to see the Input Shaft bearing and seal, as well as the synchros and a gear or two for comparison.

Good question. Basically all teeth on 2nd, 3rd and 4th were trimmed to the point where it wouldn't engage.

I was running an early phase 3 tune, with an FX350D clutch and a Wavetrac LSD. So maybe just too much torque? I asked a company to see if there were options to take the box and rebuild it with stronger gears but they didn't see a lot of options that wouldn't be stupid expensive. So now it is just a collection of paper weights and garage clutter.

My replacement box has been good so far. Including beating it hard over the Sisters weekend. So the rumors about 2015 improvements may be true, or maybe my original box was always going to give up (even stock).

I also have a M32 box in my garage (6-speed Trofeo car box) I had been planning to see if I could make that work, but life has been getting in the way.

mine came out of a 2013. i don't see any docs specifically tying this change to 2015, and obviously they did some retrofits prior to 2015.

i am debating having a friend cryo the whole thing. my gearsets are all perfect, but the disco potato is going to put down some power and i pay very little for the actual cryo. that said, i need to get a trans guy with a press to pull the gearsets off, cryo and put them back on without fucking the shims up, so it's unlikely to go to cryo.

note that my cryo guy says that he can get away with cryoing the two shafts with gears on because the shaft diameters are so small, but the bearing between 1-2-3-4 and 5th gear in the outer housing has a polymer lubricant retainer. on the secondary shaft that outer bearing could be tapped off. on the main shaft that bearing is behind two pressed retainers that neither me nor my mechanic want to touch ourselves.

haven't talked to the trans guy yet, but this thing needs to go back together, and honestly i'm still not sure how you guys have been killing gears. i have minor signs of wear on reverse, but that's it. the gt2854r build would literally push the shifter back like 3" on accel with 90A rings on the AAD rear motor mount, and the

oh, i will be getting the late build reinforcement plate cryo'd.

also, what gears have people been destroying? still trying to decide whether to have a trans guy pull the gear packs apart for cryo
