Replacing a Transmission / Axle Bearing

Has anyone replaced the driver’s side transmission axle bearing( not the hub bearing) ? It looks like they put some form of retaining compound between the outer race and transmission bore. I know high strength grades of these compounds will require heat to make them release their grip. I had a seal leak and while I was replacing it I thought I do the bearing also. I’ve tried two types of bearing pullers with slide hammers with no luck at all. The transmission has a split line there with two bolts that if loosened might help free up the bearing. This may also cause another leak. It may be possible to pull the other axle and reach through with a long punch and tap the bearing out.

After talking with people that have worked on these transmissions ,it appears that the transmission will need to be pulled and split to change the bearing. If I have to pull the trans. I'm looking at maybe a clutch ,LSD, lightened flywheel, and the Bacci Romano final drive

It would be interesting to see what options you find for an aftermarket options for your Sport. I haven't seen much for the non-turbo 500s.

Bryan is working with Clutchmasters on building a clutch for it I believe . I'm waiting on a LSD to be made in Italy that will fit it.
