I’m genuinely curious as to why carbon hoods for our cars are so expensive yet cars with 3x as large hoods are much cheaper. Is it just supply/demand, or something else?

1) are the hoods you’re looking at fully carbon or do they have a fiberglass core?

2) volume

Basically this. Supply/demand. Small market.

yea they are pricey. went to a porsche event last month and some tool who was driving a 200k porsche turbo s did a pull up on my open hood. I basically drove home with one hood latch in place and thought my hood was trashed so i started researching the carbon ones. thankfully it was just one of the arms that was bent. dude kept apologizing but never offered to pay for the damages. never be that guy lol

The companies that sell them in the US also have huge mark ups.

There is Raveworks in Spain that seems to be a lot cheaper (even with shipping), if you want to look at them.

Hmm, never heard of them. Taking a look... you know... for science.

yea, some guy at a porsche event was checking out my engine bay and noticed i had hood vents. instead of walking around the car to check them out he decided to pick himself up by my hood to see the other side of the hood. doing this completely messed up the alignment on my hood to the point where it would not close.

That's insanse, I would never even touch another person's car without permission. And with permission I would be very delicate, that's wild.
