If You're Running a Lithium-Ion Battery

Post by sportfan » Wed Aug 12, 2020 11:35 pm

I'm running an Antigravity ATX-20 Lithium-Ion battery in my 2013 Sport. I know this is the Abarth section but, what these batteries could work in any car. I'm also using an underdrive crank pulley. I don't use this battery in our cold Oklahoma winters. I switch back to the lead-acid one. I've had two issues with the battery. Last summer on returning from a 120 mile round trip, the car died while we were pulling into a gas station. I was told these batteries don't like extreme heat either. So I moved the battery inside the car in a plastic .30 cal. ammo can. No more heat problems. Last week I went by a friend's work place and he met me outside. We stood there and talked for about 20 or 30 min. The car was idling with the air on the whole time. While on the way home I noticed the Bluetooth in the car was trying to pare up with my phone. So when I got home in my garage I turned the car off. When I tried to restart it , it cranked pretty weak. So I put an automatic made for lithium batteries charger on it. It ran for 12 hours. Taking that long meant the battery was about completely dead. It has been fine after that charging. Lesson learned, don't leave it idling for long. It is nice to drop 30 pounds off the car but, everything comes at a price.

Good to know. I never had any issues with the ATX-20 but wasn't in the car all that long really.

I've gone with an AGM battery for $200, Alex....

We'll see if it holds up.

Yes, I have to do that on the Abarth or it complains about the missing lights. Also have to do that on the Pop as there is an issue in the BCM and the running lights just stay on.

I moved my Antigravity battery inside the car about a year ago and haven't had any issues. I left it in all winter which I don't usually do. The car is kept in a heated garage.
