Unique rear suspension setup

Post by Shadowshaggy » Mon Oct 01, 2018 12:44 pm

Hey guys,

So knowing what we know about the C4 rear shocks bolting up to the car, I've found something of great interest to those that are interested in something unique for setup.

Turns out that the rear shock from a 11-15 Ninja ZX10R will bolt strait to a C4 Vette......which means you can have an actual coilover shock. I'm going to order a pair of them (used) and see how it goes. Clearance shouldn't be an issue, just have to add the same spacer as with they KYBs. Bike shocks are cheap to rebuild as well.

Regarding technical info, the springs on these are 510 in/lbs. According to our resident knowallthesuspensionthings Brody, 510 in/lbs are the best spring rate to chase for "flat ride". There is approximately 1.25-1.5in of height adjustment on these, so we shall see how that pans out. The springs are interchangeable with many various rates for not a lot of money. You can get 2x shocks and the bushings for under $100, they'll be used and need rebuilt, but that's like $100/ea or so.

I'll be on this over the next few weeks and let you know how it goes.

i know the ohlins rear shocks are coilover style, but i am extremely interested in your research and what you find. I would love this sort of rear setup. time attack class rules limits me to two-way adjustable.

yea i’m all about it!!! i’ve really been doing everything else before pulling the trigger on coilovers but am running out of other crap to do. waiting for just the right system to come to light. Motion Control has an incredible setup but is 3 way.

The issue is Ohlins and ExtremeShox are 3k+, ain't happening. But getting some front coilovers and then this for the rear should set you back a grand-ish or Konis up front and these in the rear with some decent rate lowering springs. It's piecemealing a kit, but in the scheme of things, that's how we end up with the best things right?

Good thing here, this is height adjustment and I believe that's it unless you get a racing version of it.

yea can’t wait to see what you come up with. i’m down to try anything if it works better than the standard kits out there.

You can buy the BC rear kit separately and they will custom build the dampers and spring rates for you. Prepare to wait, but I believe it to be worth the wait.

A custom spec'd coilover would be better, of course. The question here I think is, what's the cost advantage for budget builds. There are always going to be compromises on a budget build, the question is, is this compromise worth it for those who have $200 to spend but not $1500 or whatever BC charges for a custom coilover, or even for an off the shelf coilover.

yea i have been leaning toward getting custom valved dampers and swift springs from bc racing based on the assetto corse setup. not ready yet just in case someone comes up with a true coilover rear setup.
