Looking for a Mint Green 500

Post by sportfan » Sat Jun 19, 2021 5:22 pm

We test drove a used ( what I would call) mint green 500C . My wife really liked it so I'm looking for one for her. We don't really want the convertible , a coupe, a sunroof car is fine. She likes the two tone white / gray ( I think it was gray ) interior. Anything from a 2013 to a 2017 is fine . I don't want a turbo car. She wants the automatic transmission also. Low mileage is preferred . Must be in pretty good shape. Thanks.

He didn't want the cabrio, but there are a bunch of green 500s out there (not sure about minty ones though). Doesn't seem to be anything near Sportfan though.

ImageThanks for the replies. We found one in OKC yesterday. It is a 2013 500C Lounge that is in VGC with a set of new tires on it. Clean Carfax. Looking at your replies it looks like we bought it at a fair price. It has 75,000 miles on it which is more than I wanted. It is really a bummer that Twisted is over. My wife and I thought it would be fun for her to have her own Fiat to drive in the Miss Daisey class. Really a bummer for me with just getting the LSD installed. If any one puts together a replacement Twisted weekend please let us know. Texanbrit I need to get in touch with you on how to take care of this top on the 500C. Thanks again.

Congrats on the new ride!!!!

If my personal life gets a bit more stable I'm planning to go drive the route this fall. So I'll let you know if/when I head out there. Won't be the amazing event that NGen put on, but it would still be nice to see a few FIAT faces.

Care for the top is pretty straight forward. Basically once a year, or if it gets noisy, wipe off all of the old lubricant from the rails; then apply new lubricant. I like to use Berulub FR43 as apparently that is what is used from the factory. That can be hard to source but it's specifically designed for the plastic to metal application and doesn't seem to get as gunky as other lubricants (e.g. white lithium). The goal is to keep dirt out of those tracks as the plastic guides chew up pretty easily. Sun is the biggest killer for the top itself, and will fade them fast. There doesn't seem to be much defense against it except shade. I bought a whole bunch of special ragtop cleaning products, but I've really not found them necessary as the canvas itself is very durable. The other thing is to watch for is one side running ahead of the other, that's a sign of imminent and expensive problems.

Thanks Paul . I hope I don't regret buying the car . I'd heard so many horror stories about the tops it was my biggest concern. It was what the wife wanted but, she doesn't get the pleasure of working on it. Without knowing what has been done to the car I plan on all new wheel bearings, DNA top hats, yellow Konis, and a ST rear sway bar. I have many extra parts from my car if needed. I don't have a clue how well the auto trans. hold up.

I've heard a few horror stories, but I know a lot of people that their top is just fine despite continual neglect. On the whole the top is very reliable (it just fails in the most expensive way possible).

I don't know anyone that has pushed the auto very hard. It's very reliable if not terribly exciting.

I have an unused ST Sway bar, unfortunately the way shipping rates have gone up lately it would cost as much to ship it as for you to just buy one :( ...

It is in the plans to get one for her car along with DNA top hats and yellow Koni struts like I stated before. We got the car today. I followed her back from Edmond that is about 80 miles away. She said the car pulled to the right pretty bad. I told her I would like to get the Konis and Dna top hats on it before we take it for alignment.
