Disconnecting battery?

Post by JustPeachySav » Thu Sep 27, 2018 12:02 pm

I want to remove the colored dash panel to wrap it and was wondering if I need to dieconnect the battery before starting? Also I've never had to disconnect the battery before so if anyone could help with it would be very appreciated. Thank you!! :D

No need to disconnect the battery before removing the dash panel, as you can remove the buttons without unplugging them once the panel is removed.

However if it makes you feel more comfortable, the preferred method is to remove the NEGATIVE terminal (the one in black) by loosening the 10mm nut closest to the post just slightly and working it off. Tuck the cable to the side of the battery so it doesn't "pop" back into position and create momentary contact while you're working. Make sure not to touch your wrench to the positive terminal while working... that's a common newbie mistake.

It's really no big deal Paul. I switched my Antigravity battery out to for oem battery yesterday. It had to be done for our cold winters but, will be swapped back in the spring. I had to reset the clock afterwards and that was it.

Have anyone used a lithium-ion battery ?

I've been using a lithium-ion battery off and on for a year and a half without any problems. About two weeks ago the car went dead while we were driving around the pumps at a gas station. A friend was called and took me home to get my lead-acid battery ,which cured the problem. I've called and talked to the battery maker . They were concerned that the battery got too hot and tripped off. After I hit the reset button the battery had 13.7 volts. It was about 105 degrees the day this happen and we were returning from a 120 mile round trip. I can return the battery and have it checked out . It is still under a prorated warranty and they said they would work with me if I wanted to up grade to a car battery. I had planned to move the battery behind the front passenger's seat tomorrow. It will fit into a plastic ammo can. I know inside a car can reach 135 degrees in the summer but, under the hood beside the battery reached 140 degrees on a 10 mile drive on a 92 degree night this week. I used this battery a year ago June at Twisted Sisters without any issues. Anyone else had similar issues? I like the 30 pound weight loss when using this battery but, I don't like the risk of the car going dead and dark at the wrong time. I guess I'll move it and try it for a few weeks and keep the lead -acid battery under the hood so I can switch it back if needed. If it trips out again I'll send it in and maybe upgrade to true car battery. Someone refresh my memory, I wanted to start this as a new posting but, couldn't remember how .

I ran an ATX-20 for a while, never had an issue with heat in the engine bay. The terminal broke on the battery which is why I went back to the monster. I have a Braiile 18 that I was going to try, but I've had so many electrical Gremlins over the last couple of years that I didn't want to add another variable.
