Can't get it to start.

Post by sportfan » Tue Jun 08, 2021 7:41 pm

I just installed a Quaife LSD and a clutchmaster clutch got the car back together and it won't start. I've posted this on other webpages and tried everything anyone replied and still can't get it to start. I don't think it is cranking as fast as it did before and it acts like the oil pump has lost prime. I ran the code reader and got P1524 Oil pressure out of range, camshaft advance / retard disabled. Which I guess means the Multi Air brick isn't getting enough oil pressure. I welcome any help.

Also it will refuse to start if things are out of balance. Mine refused to start because I mounted the under pulley incorrectly, Bob Zecca just said that he had a “crank no start” with a car where the clutch flywheel sheered loose.

I tried everything that people posted to try on the blue page and more. I built a tank ,filled it with oil, pressured it up to 20 psi. , and hooked it up to the oil pressure sending unit port. After a few cranks it fired right up. So the pumps aren't self priming because I never got oil up to the brick until I did this. All along I thought it was the pump wasn't pumping or the oil pressure RV was stuck open. I hope I didn't cause any extra wear on the bearings by following the " keep cranking it ,it'll fire up" advice from several people. I've had it out on a few short trips and it ran fine. I can really feel the LSD when opening up the throttle in a tight turn. Its like torque steer.

That's great news. Interesting technique to get the oil up there! I'm a bit curious why this gave you so much trouble but at least it's resolved now.

I guess with the oil pan off for a few days that the oil pump lost prime. It seems the pumps are not self priming. Once I had the system pressured up and got everything back in place, it didn't take but a few cranks to get it to start up. I just hope I didn't damage the small end rod bearing any. It seems to run ok and doesn't have any strange noises. I plan on doing a write up with pictures on here and the blue page. Very few NA car detailed write ups are done so maybe it will help someone.

Would be great to have it documented. I probably have to remove my oil pan on the Pop soon and might even replace the oil pump.

I don't think the starter spins things fast enough to cause any real damage and there isn't a lot of load on the system while cranking.
