Hello from Brazil

Post by dimroth » Thu Nov 08, 2018 1:43 pm

Hi, my name is Daniel.
I have a 2012 Sport Prima #56, here in Brazil, we have a particular range of Primas. My car don't have Sunroof, Bose Audio. But believe.. its a Genuine Prima
I bought this car new in 2011/11.
He have had all problems that all Fiat 500 owners described all over the world.
ECU Reprogramed, Crankshaft remanufectured, Oil Leak, Spark Plug Oil Leak, Crankshaft Sensor Alert at 4000 rpm... and others...
The problem is.. I love this car and I'll try to stay with him all of my life.
Now I'm executing a project: Turbocharging the 1.4NA engine.
God bless me that the engine will not explode.

Thank's for accept me on this forum.

Would be interesting to see your project, but it has a lot of pitfalls you'll need to overcome.

Your most likely and "easiest" outcome would be to find a donor vehicle that is already turbo, swap the powertrain, PCM, BCM, Cluster... basically body swap and then you have a Prima Sport Turbo. Intercooler would have to be custom if you want to fit it behind the Sport bumper as well.

Trying to turbo the existing engine is going to be problematic due to Fiat's PCM which is very sensitive and controlling of just about every aspect of the motor. You'd have to have access to a world-class tuner with the right equipment to retune the PCM if it's even possible. There are probably less than a dozen shops in the entire world that have the right equipment and knowledge to even tune a multiair turbo to begin with, let alone a conversion.

As I said though, it is definitely possible if you look at it from the angle of an engine/harness/computer swap rather than as a turbo conversion on the current engine. It will be more successful, and if you find a wrecked Abarth, will actually cost less at the end of the day.

Welcome to the group!

The biggest issue converting the NA engine to turbo will probably be that the engine internals are not built for it. The turbo 500s all have forged internals. As Madfiat said it might be easier to do a transplant.

2013 Abarth 500 (broken engine, current project) - Abby
