Bluetooth Receiver

Post by texanbrit » Sun Apr 07, 2019 8:25 pm

Plugged into the glove box USB in my 2012/2013 500s, My iPhone 7 plus will no longer run a nav app, play music and stay charged over any kind of distance.

I decided to try one of the bluetooth receiver devices so my phone can be plugged into a regular USB adapter.

I ordered an mPow device, but the shipping date was into May, so I decided to get a second device to compare since they are cheap, and I have 2 500s.

The second device came today, free next day delivery with Amazon. It's a Anker Soundsync A3352. Retails for about $20.

I've only run it today, but here are my initial thoughts.

The Good
Installation is super easy. The 3.5mm jack plugs into the aux port in the glove box. The micro-USB device plugs into the USB port and the end of the device. Press the button to sync, connect from your phone and you're done.

Sound quality is good. No chopping or tininess.

It's small. Put it in the glove box and forget about it.

The Less Good
My phone doesn't always remember to connect to he device. Think that's a phone issue though.

The device stays on when the car is off. So my phone stays connected even when the car is in the garage. It has an internal battery that lasts up to 12 hours. I'll just need to remember to disconnect my phone when I'm not using it.

The next track button on the wheel/stereo doesn't work. I can use my phone, but it would be nice to use the wheel.

The Bad
Can't think of anything really bad.

The other cheap device I ordered showed up. It's a Morjava YET-M1-Streambot Mini Bluetooth 4.0 Music Receiver Wireless Adapter. It was $9.99 with free shipping from Amazon.

The Good
Installation is also very easy. In the same manner as the other device a 3.5mm jack plugs into the aux port in the glove box and the other end goes into the device. The micro-USB device plugs into the USB port for power. There is no pairing button, when you put the car in accessory mode with the radio in AUX mode you hear a chinese female voice say "The Bluetooth device is available for pairing". You can then pick the device from your phone at which point the voice says "The bluetooth device connected successfully"

Sound quality is good. No chopping or tininess.

It's small. Put it in the glove box and forget about it.

It turns itself off after a few seconds when the car is off, so I won't stay connected without realizing.

The Less Good
The next track button on the wheel/stereo doesn't work. I can use my phone, but it would be nice to use the wheel.

The Bad
I think the voice acknowledgement of connecting successfully is going to get old.
