2015 Abarth exhaust. Love it or hate it?

Hey all. I have a 2015 500 Abarth and I have a love/hate relationship with the stock exhaust. I love the rowdy and raspy attitude, but I hate the 1800rpm and 3000rpm drone. Man alive freeway driving can be intolerable, especially when faced with a strong head wind, which required more throttle and resulted in more drone.

I must be getting old, cuz this is the first car I’ve owned that I ADDED a muffler. I installed a magnaflow 10415 with limited success.

After installing that, I found I missed the rasp and turbo noise. Plus, it helped tone everything down but didn’t remove the 3000rpm drone. It’s better but not gone. What if I could have both? A muffled and an unmuffled car? That’s what I attempted to do. I added a diverted valve so I could open the straight pipe on days I was feelin scrappy.

I had plans to hook that diverted up to the sport button so I could change the exhaust note with additional power. Well… in the end, I would say it was not worth it. The difference in tone is small, at best. All I really did was add some weight to the car. I think I needed to shut off the muffler for a large effect. Now, when the valve is open, the muffler is in parallel with the straight pipe.

So, I don’t recommend you do this, in case anyone is thinking about it. Also, I don’t think the muffler (or resonator it’s actually called) I used was the best choice.

Very nice setup, I've thought of doing something similar. However, it needs a bit bigger resonator than that to make much of a difference.
