advice on install oil pressure/temp gauges?

Post by operamatt » Sat Nov 24, 2018 3:27 pm

have my eye on some prosport premium EVO oil pressure and oil temp gauges for my 2012 abarth 500. I am curious of how this could be done and where the sensors could be mounted. I am not apposed to going with an external oil cooler and running the sensors through the sandwich plate if that is possible. any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Well...

The Prometeo oil pan has an extra port for one....

You can also drop the pan and drill/tap a new hole for a sensor in the stock oil pan.

As for the temp gauge, there is a hard line near the turbo that you could likely tap into. It would be some work but also something I am considering doing in the NGEN Abarth (at least the oil pressure gauge.

does the prometeo pan have a port for both the oil temp & the oil pressure? that would sure make things easy

It has one extra port. However, you could use the main drain plug port for one of them as well.

BTW, we offer the Prometeo oil pan and skid plate:

i ordered 52mm Prosport Premium oil pressure and temp gauges yesterday. hoping those will both be able to be used with the prometeo oil pan. expect an order for the red oil pan next time i get my oil changed. should be early next year. i don’t think a skid plate will work with how the underside of my car is configured.

There's an oil pressure switch on the front of the engine, just in front of the crank on the oil filter housing. I've read that you can use an adapter there to add an aftermarket sensor in addition to the factory sensor, but I haven't done it myself so can't vouch for the method. One caveat also is that the service manual states the sensor has a "lock patch" (?) on the threads and can't be reinstalled if removed.

I would expect that the extra port on the oil pan would be fine for oil temperature, but would not expect it to be a pressurized port.
