ARCP Not running by itself...

Post by Jonohhh » Sun Nov 25, 2018 1:31 am

So, as the title says, my after run coolant pump isn't turning on by itself. If I manually control it through AlfaOBD, it turns on and runs fine, but under no condition can I get it to turn on by itself.

Coolant temp reading is normal, not low, and I've even tried shutting the engine off seconds after a few WOT 1500-6500 RPM pulls, and nothing. It isn't related to the weather getting cooler because the issue started mid summer.

Any thoughts? All I can think of is that I messed up some code in the ECU when I did a mostly unnecessary test on the ARCP a while back through AlfaOBD.

Haven't gone to the dealer for a reflash but I can if it's deemed necessary.

Thanks y'allss

Hmm. No idea.. some of the AlfaOBD functions do make me nervous though.

I wish I knew what all it uses to decide whether or not to run... Not having luck finding anything.

Okay, I've ruled out the ECU logic, now looking into sensors.

It ran by itself for the first time in months today, and it also happens the only time in months I've been able to drive a long distance with the climate control completely off. That tells me that it may be coolant temperature related, as the cooling fan runs whenever the compressor is engaged, cooling the water in the radiator, and despite the thermostat, it still causes a very small difference in engine coolant temperature.

So my suspects are either the thermostat letting too much water through, or the coolant sensor reading slightly low.

What's the typical operating temperature for this engine?

VERY Old thread, but I found out what was going on so hopefully this will help someone in the future.

It appears that it was indeed something wrong with the software on the ECU. After flashing EC Euro-Drive, the problem was immediately fixed and all is back to normal now, even if I flash back to stock tune.

Thanks for the update. Our PCMs are more sensitive than an unstable teenager. One wrong glance and they go wonky, and often you never know what is wrong just that your car is crap.
