Battery Relocation

Post by sportfan » Mon Aug 26, 2019 4:20 am

Has anyone done a battery relocation to get the weight off the front of the car that could help me? I'm going to do my own relocation and wondered how they routed the cables.

I have seen smaller/lighter battery mods that are moved back in an effort to open up space for other mods

I seem to remember reading somewhere that moving the battery to the back doesn't help at Autocross the way you would think. I've seen lots of people run the lighter weight Braille battery, or a lithum battery light the ATX-20. The Lithium batteries weight so little it probably doesn't matter where you locate them.

I own a Braille 18 that I keep threatening to throw in the car, but also I'm enjoying a short period with no issues so not today.

I really want to move it to get it in a cooler area. I know on very hot days inside the car temps can reach 135 degrees. Under the hood by the battery it was 140 degrees after a short drive on a 92 degree night.

I put the battery behind the passenger seat inside an ammo box. It has a hole in the top so I can push the reset battery if needed. If its hot I'll be running the ac, so the battery won't get hot to often. I know under the hood on a 92 degree night the temp hits 140 degrees.

I did a little test run today and drove to the same place that I went to the night the battery trip out on me. It was a very hot Oklahoma day and with the battery in the back floorboard it never got hot enough to be a problem.
